We've moved our blog to <a href="https://nelliesniceties.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Wordpress</a> as it gives the opportunity for a prettier experience (in my opinion). We really hope you'll still visit us over there.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It's still a bit of a work in progress but it should be a lot easier to find all of our free patterns and templates over there. We've moved all of the content from this blog so with time we're hoping it will be somewhere you'll enjoy visiting. Please re-add us to your <a href="https://www.bloglovin.com/blogs/nelliesnicetieswordpresscom-14851159" target="_blank">Bloglovin'</a> and <a href="https://feedly.com/i/subscription/feed/https://nelliesniceties.wordpress.com/feeds/posts/default" target="_blank">Feedly</a> accounts or consider signing up to receive emails when we post on the new blog. Thank you all for your support here over the years we hope this won't be the end of our little community.<br />

My stupid back has been giving me hell so there has been much whinging and complaining and very minimal sewing. What little sewing I have been doing is secret and with a deadline fast approaching I'm thankful for diazepam! To alleviate the misery that comes with lack of creativity, I have had fun laying out tiles for our kitchen. Hubby has been very tolerant and agreed to these gorgeous patchwork style tiles. Rather amusingly they are called Batiks...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZr0m51btUZSElI6qqxjgNqtbR7U9WDaJzkXr6s_OIy-AXvJC7oNUNpBENzSK9n7ZOZw0l96-6v0930AEfVeJYylrrMeK9vQjcPuqVTrmBBVJ-7v6tw6mPnbN3MIhEZFgy-2D3gDRmHENY/s1600/Kitchen+tiles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZr0m51btUZSElI6qqxjgNqtbR7U9WDaJzkXr6s_OIy-AXvJC7oNUNpBENzSK9n7ZOZw0l96-6v0930AEfVeJYylrrMeK9vQjcPuqVTrmBBVJ-7v6tw6mPnbN3MIhEZFgy-2D3gDRmHENY/s400/Kitchen+tiles.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love the effect that they give. I think they're a good mix of traditional and modern style and they represent my patchwork madness that dominates the rest of the house but was a bit lacking in the kitchen until now. The kitchen feels very homely with this little infusion of colour. I'll get a better picture when hubby has finished the grouting...As it just wouldn't be right to finish a blog post without something fabric-y I thought I'd share my progress so far on the <a href="http://www.sewandquilt.co.uk/shop/lucy-boston-patchwork-of-the-crosses-2016-block-of-the-month-club/" target="_blank">Patchwork of the Crosses BOM. Jessie Fincham of Sew and Quilt</a> is running this gorgeous Liberty fabric BOM and while the fabrics and colours are not really me I suspect there is a teenager not too far from here who will love this when it's finished.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxt4tRH5DpcTDHJetEtDWX5TZKeECxULkYYk8JRbl68NRZR4yOprG2cWBTTWWZ0JC4Ix2-iLrRkIYHIJKvFwWti9J5GgnADndNukLg98rq7OtlSRtsz-6DmpzPzQBQ4OhYnmxou4r-pEvV/s1600/Patchwork+of+the+crosses+month+1+and+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="206" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxt4tRH5DpcTDHJetEtDWX5TZKeECxULkYYk8JRbl68NRZR4yOprG2cWBTTWWZ0JC4Ix2-iLrRkIYHIJKvFwWti9J5GgnADndNukLg98rq7OtlSRtsz-6DmpzPzQBQ4OhYnmxou4r-pEvV/s400/Patchwork+of+the+crosses+month+1+and+2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I'm running slightly behind as I'm fairly certain month 4 won't be far off but as I'm stitching the blocks together as I make them I'm using that as my excuse. I just know that if I left all the joining to the end of the 12 months BOM the quilt top would never be finished. It's quite nice to just stitch something without having to make any design decisions for a change. <br />
I hope all is good in your corner of the world. I had the great pleasure of working with <a href="http://www.lecien.co.jp/en/hobby/1000color/" target="_blank">Lecien's new 1000 colours</a> solids range. The colours are beautifully saturated and really pop against a white background. Here's the professional shot from inside the magazine.<br />

It's a simple tumbling blocks design but the placement of colours makes it look a bit more complicated.I used a variegated Aurifil thread to straight line quilt a star design over the pieced section of the wall hanging to add a bit of texture. This is what it looks like from the back of the wall hanging.<br />

I've lost my final marble and taken a stand for Nellie's Niceties at the <a href="http://westcountryquiltshow.co.uk/" target="_blank">West Country Quilt and Textile Show</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'll give you all the fun details nearer the time but there will be lots of updates along the way as I share the samples I'm making for the stand. I'm off to lie down in a darkened room and question my sanity. Catch you soon xReene@Nellie's Nicetieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07612916379456955078noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-552107843211064831.post-8222309868549974502016-03-02T22:06:00.000+00:002016-03-02T22:06:27.366+00:00Patience is a virtue..... that I don't possess but thankfully <a href="http://narcolepticinacupboard.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Sarah</a> does. About 6 months ago I held a giveaway over on Instagram and Sarah was the winner. The prize was a custom cushion made by yours truly. Sarah highlighted some of my designs that she liked and then left me to get on with it. Sarah was particularly fond of two of my quilts, <a href="http://nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/the-week-that-was.html" target="_blank">Never Forgotten</a> and <a href="http://nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/bloggers-quilt-festival-spring-2015.html" target="_blank">Kaleidoscopic</a>, so I figured I'd make something that included elements of both of them. What I forgot was that improv is not a speedy process for me, hence this cushion being 6 months in the making.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3euWg4TyXnIoD3Z8okJZC36oqVCoN7ZIRwR5RlCcnFtfTGoN_JAVpvZpErsEFLjmO-FaSP6k6brGGmcgpzm45aebzseoL2GJ_diKBBbgPHPi24Q4t5ZZVOLz9c_44EMFjoRZHOkS_pTgo/s1600/IMG_0706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3euWg4TyXnIoD3Z8okJZC36oqVCoN7ZIRwR5RlCcnFtfTGoN_JAVpvZpErsEFLjmO-FaSP6k6brGGmcgpzm45aebzseoL2GJ_diKBBbgPHPi24Q4t5ZZVOLz9c_44EMFjoRZHOkS_pTgo/s400/IMG_0706.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I started by making a <a href="http://nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/fal-hexiestars-cushion.html" target="_blank">Hexiestars</a> block with fabrics left over from my Kaleidoscopic quilt and built random blocks out from there. I had to walk away from it at my first attempt as I just didn't know how I wanted it to develop. Yesterday I picked it back up after a long absence and once I got into my stride it didn't take long at all to finish it up. I crazy straight line quilted with a variegated green Aurifil thread which melted into the background beautifully.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have been busy sewing and sharing progress on Instagram but that hasn't translated into blog posts. To those of you who still frequent these parts I'm sorry that you've been neglected. I will try harder, honestly.<br />
I stepped in as an "Angel" for the Pillow Talk Swap Instagram edition so I've had a few fun days stitching up this cushion. I resized the templates from my <a href="http://nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=kaleidoscopic" target="_blank">Kaleidoscopic quilt</a> to create this 18" square cushion. I used Aurifil to echo quilt in the diamonds for a subtle look, there was already plenty going on with all the different fabrics.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvt_3PmLbPE175ylxNPqJXQQ0uIlB9L3qV98wMXK79wjGvbU9j38qrROG62MnENcT9LZvnucdiq5BSGN20PfPEFMW025E3tWjvAVM3cDzeHTCorvfqHMoJkxq0KES9d5uYvQMjGgqU3wEf/s1600/IMG_0675.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvt_3PmLbPE175ylxNPqJXQQ0uIlB9L3qV98wMXK79wjGvbU9j38qrROG62MnENcT9LZvnucdiq5BSGN20PfPEFMW025E3tWjvAVM3cDzeHTCorvfqHMoJkxq0KES9d5uYvQMjGgqU3wEf/s400/IMG_0675.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
It was slightly painful sending this one off today, I really hope it will be loved by the recipient. I couldn't resist taking a shot of it with the original Kaleidoscopic quilt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjczNuyIte2UQHYnd7o5XZmzwPV7n6DUcNY7lkp4HqRT5nwk0-qXxTN1vZPSl5GHHd3tgADx9_dGEVPhGPAQWC5INKSNR1s4U-5UL_54IgCpv9ipEaVN0Wpw2fjSFNUyTpvFGBDHE1HjbO/s1600/IMG_0690.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjczNuyIte2UQHYnd7o5XZmzwPV7n6DUcNY7lkp4HqRT5nwk0-qXxTN1vZPSl5GHHd3tgADx9_dGEVPhGPAQWC5INKSNR1s4U-5UL_54IgCpv9ipEaVN0Wpw2fjSFNUyTpvFGBDHE1HjbO/s640/IMG_0690.JPG" width="425" /></a></div>
I will be releasing the pattern for this quilt and a stand alone foundation template version very soon so please do keep an eye out for news shortly if you're interested. I've stitched up my <a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/minitrellisblock/" target="_blank">Mini Trellis block</a> this afternoon over on Instagram but I thought I'd share the process photos here as well in case you wanted to see how the block goes together. I pulled a selection of fabrics from <a href="http://www.karenlewistextiles.com/" target="_blank">Karen Lewis'</a> Blueberry Park range for Robert Kaufman.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVAjdYpYVJ_yh2C2HA_F8xpRlBnjPXkKrCfsS7FmqRcAYM2RlqQ7iIcYZbuJwiJEvAmZfGdPX1WSNyOAHZeYLugvDARCgHETXv0VgHgeH1OU7J1vICmWrH7dnOXW5938YIAFVkAhAduJDO/s1600/IMG_0571.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVAjdYpYVJ_yh2C2HA_F8xpRlBnjPXkKrCfsS7FmqRcAYM2RlqQ7iIcYZbuJwiJEvAmZfGdPX1WSNyOAHZeYLugvDARCgHETXv0VgHgeH1OU7J1vICmWrH7dnOXW5938YIAFVkAhAduJDO/s400/IMG_0571.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I prepped all the pieces before starting to speed things up.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj02GhKljMvc8otv59hlxap-MHUqnlXsKq9X3wpIItXVklPYo-IW6If-2AfvULn7Y7x6IbMbcpLoM_j5UgSFXcb7rpbeQeOiCgzxc0M-_5JHJcDviD66X5QKXkcND6-TCx4uvxvCkM0m_iE/s1600/IMG_0573.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj02GhKljMvc8otv59hlxap-MHUqnlXsKq9X3wpIItXVklPYo-IW6If-2AfvULn7Y7x6IbMbcpLoM_j5UgSFXcb7rpbeQeOiCgzxc0M-_5JHJcDviD66X5QKXkcND6-TCx4uvxvCkM0m_iE/s400/IMG_0573.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I marked, cut and pieced each block separately to avoid getting in a muddle...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijd40jI_ipKNU6ckhONMl8L7aQ5nuJZ4UYQjOCqZqG9vKKmk4W0J6F0_gkJGDXLwrGNaOZ48qiu0QXnJAsoFW_EaX4fWCD_bz-zlLY1YB7ue_SHgKuF59yrID1xKD0FAP3OasCfcU0tBad/s1600/IMG_0574.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijd40jI_ipKNU6ckhONMl8L7aQ5nuJZ4UYQjOCqZqG9vKKmk4W0J6F0_gkJGDXLwrGNaOZ48qiu0QXnJAsoFW_EaX4fWCD_bz-zlLY1YB7ue_SHgKuF59yrID1xKD0FAP3OasCfcU0tBad/s400/IMG_0574.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
..stitched using an old needle and shortened the stitch length to 1.3 to aid in removing papers later.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPIOpTauT01AUH30AotfX5tfkUlFLwnRdKQDyeFZKSkH7kiGXRJNvRYwEExP3H1Hx9C-Vs23GFGFiG4t6WwroX0nZnMJ-jWYyrUi8cwZJLImSwCekyNycnZjrQlLDNfAQZBsW_mMAueXf5/s1600/IMG_0576.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPIOpTauT01AUH30AotfX5tfkUlFLwnRdKQDyeFZKSkH7kiGXRJNvRYwEExP3H1Hx9C-Vs23GFGFiG4t6WwroX0nZnMJ-jWYyrUi8cwZJLImSwCekyNycnZjrQlLDNfAQZBsW_mMAueXf5/s400/IMG_0576.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Trimmed a scant 1/4" seam within the block as the pieces are quite small.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBSsUerlY1BjVwdgey8gSQJzxrXCU-JDhW2sM6xAkeVUfgyXlbWbz3tKQGmS2xOYT3A6daDKLExCtn4vIXJLXTNzX56o7jTO5vt-5QxTbnKn-iOkuXL7K2tpBwSN1AAeWnCkivuMtSqUC3/s1600/IMG_0577.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBSsUerlY1BjVwdgey8gSQJzxrXCU-JDhW2sM6xAkeVUfgyXlbWbz3tKQGmS2xOYT3A6daDKLExCtn4vIXJLXTNzX56o7jTO5vt-5QxTbnKn-iOkuXL7K2tpBwSN1AAeWnCkivuMtSqUC3/s400/IMG_0577.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
A couple of stitches in the seam allowance on the outer edges of the block help to hold the fabric in place when piecing the elements of the block together later.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_fgKc9CLTLJFL8jdfiDbm0nGCVPSZ0k_VcGz5t573aCmcsGMM4fibvF2_x6F77oBMmIKpPq7UPCOZOEzCuawjLJLN0iZ1Gn8k78q8UXikSQemEUYpu9NnXblvy5iXH4dd5UILMVXBZGB5/s1600/IMG_0578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_fgKc9CLTLJFL8jdfiDbm0nGCVPSZ0k_VcGz5t573aCmcsGMM4fibvF2_x6F77oBMmIKpPq7UPCOZOEzCuawjLJLN0iZ1Gn8k78q8UXikSQemEUYpu9NnXblvy5iXH4dd5UILMVXBZGB5/s400/IMG_0578.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I speared the relevant matching points with pins to make sure the alignment was OK before stitching. Before pressing I removed the paper from the seam allowances along the join to help it lay(lie? who knows?) flat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4sU-u7dYlirO3c3Yy0JaAifLZSNYyIjyIOU4WIhyiChckB_q2sV-L2finPEDdOIDacFy954Oj9s58WzpGZe_mFFG_V3bYxl5S5GsuOVZvuRUQrxvSe-eNltCytkZTr5RZuQiYHghaaLpN/s1600/collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4sU-u7dYlirO3c3Yy0JaAifLZSNYyIjyIOU4WIhyiChckB_q2sV-L2finPEDdOIDacFy954Oj9s58WzpGZe_mFFG_V3bYxl5S5GsuOVZvuRUQrxvSe-eNltCytkZTr5RZuQiYHghaaLpN/s400/collage.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Repeat with the other half of this section of the block.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjryIPaGzu5yU9GpWDDq9Icl44IjJcHAongZk-od19BKK8O8rXrWADfPNDfxlucYRqBT7-BCXhUH8_fiV0Lpr1Sl7etuqo7mxycrlk8zJs8iPl45O-yf-2s0noBgINvSXzybFi414EweJia/s1600/IMG_0582.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjryIPaGzu5yU9GpWDDq9Icl44IjJcHAongZk-od19BKK8O8rXrWADfPNDfxlucYRqBT7-BCXhUH8_fiV0Lpr1Sl7etuqo7mxycrlk8zJs8iPl45O-yf-2s0noBgINvSXzybFi414EweJia/s400/IMG_0582.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Then there was the simple matter of making three more before the light vanished....I didn't succeed. It was dusk by the time I finished so the colours look vastly different but the block is still pretty.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_W7IBzLOFO3nHs90c8O9By_IcSG7cSyVzjAr1GkL9VrdrEty_QskfnrRpqNk0Gb0eGUMH9q70ne0b1i2NNbLGS3vw1chDgiAq2Xwf1H8ZDNOKccWaNFJ44ol9Tk-g-mwW3PW9Mz3ql187/s1600/finished+mini+trellis.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_W7IBzLOFO3nHs90c8O9By_IcSG7cSyVzjAr1GkL9VrdrEty_QskfnrRpqNk0Gb0eGUMH9q70ne0b1i2NNbLGS3vw1chDgiAq2Xwf1H8ZDNOKccWaNFJ44ol9Tk-g-mwW3PW9Mz3ql187/s400/finished+mini+trellis.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

I've designed the blocks to be very quick and effective for a single project or used in multiples to create a stunning quilt. There is no foundation piecing and all the blocks are designed to be chain pieced to speed things up when making multiple blocks. As the patterns are in pictorial format there is very little written instruction, as such the patterns are suitable for people with at least a basic knowledge of patchwork techniques.<br />
<br />
I'm delighted that the pattern testers all enjoyed the pictorial format of the Easy Peasy Wonderland blocks pattern. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/beezuscomplex/" target="_blank">Maria</a> and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/theoriginaltrash/" target="_blank">Trash</a> had tested the <a href="http://nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/the-easy-peasy-christmas-sampler.html" target="_blank">Easy Peasy Christmas Sampler</a> for me previously so they knew what to expect and weren't disappointed. Phew! It's always a bit nerve-wracking sending patterns that I've designed out into the wild so I'm always relieved to receive positive feedback.<br />
<br />
This time around I have prepared patterns for the individual blocks as well as a combined pattern so that if there is a particular block that takes your fancy you're not committed to having to buy all of the blocks. All of the blocks have a colouring sheet for testing colour placement before cutting into precious fabric!<br />
<br />
The <a href="https://payhip.com/b/8qwO" target="_blank">Eat Me block pattern</a> contains the block in two sizes 6" and 12".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The <a href="https://payhip.com/b/XfDA" target="_blank">combined pattern</a> has all four of the blocks and the suggested block layout for the quilt top I'm making. It's also available with a saving of £1.50 compared to buying each of the blocks separately. Who doesn't love a bargain?<br />

This one has been brewing in my head for a year or so and I just hadn't found time to put it into action, so, it was most serendipitous that <a href="http://www.liveartgalleryfabrics.com/wonderland.html" target="_blank">Katarina Roccella released her Wonderland</a> fabric collection with Art Gallery Fabrics at the end of last year.<br />

I'm loving how the blocks are looking so far. I've made Drink Me, Eat Me and the Flamingo, next on the list is the Top Hat. Here's a sneak peek at the layout I'm working towards.<br />

Happy new year folks! I had great intentions of blogging every day this year and it's now the 6th so clearly that's one resolution down the pan already. Thankfully my other resolution was not to make any more resolutions so I'm winning on that front. I hope your year is shaping up to be a good one so far. Catch you soon xReene@Nellie's Nicetieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07612916379456955078noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-552107843211064831.post-38125762969679656332015-12-12T16:47:00.000+00:002015-12-12T16:47:07.884+00:00Mini octastringsA while ago I signed up for the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/pillowtalkswapigstyle/" target="_blank">Pillow Talk swap on Instagram</a>. I absolutely could not resist it as it was my favourite swap back in the days when <a href="https://www.flickr.com/groups/1197421@N20/" target="_blank">Flickr</a> was fun to use. My partner is a fan of scrappy so I decided to resize my <a href="http://nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/bloggers-quilt-festival-fall-2014.html" target="_blank">Octastring block</a> for an epic mini version. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd3BPreYNgGb0czd4HgLVcUkbdTHpd0ZDP-FGYLpXpJqlRz4X07G6ebXbxXHKLgV7cyQl0GZHNBz-t7rXlmXRor8pNEcPK01VZpuI2ozbJNvOsXqkDHQbNM3dyOy7M4QB7B0n5lXXhEOEl/s1600/octastring+minis.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="331" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd3BPreYNgGb0czd4HgLVcUkbdTHpd0ZDP-FGYLpXpJqlRz4X07G6ebXbxXHKLgV7cyQl0GZHNBz-t7rXlmXRor8pNEcPK01VZpuI2ozbJNvOsXqkDHQbNM3dyOy7M4QB7B0n5lXXhEOEl/s400/octastring+minis.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Each block finishes up around 6" and as each block is made up of 9 patches they are rather time consuming, well over 20 hours of work to get it to this point, but I think the end result is worth it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I echo quilted each of the blocks with a pink variegated Aurifil thread as I wanted the quilting to be simple and fade into the background as there was already so much going on with the scrappiness.<br />

I've been hand stitching again this week. I drew up another cross-stitch/embroidery design - a Christmas tree and made it small enough to fit in a 3" hoop. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqibg6QXhM-VGUBD7_2WI6IpBreZ2BpBnfSp6RZ1EipSxB0IEffzVFcvenT_VRIXUzSdto8nXrGS1LloP2wgJmMwmWITlQagih78eX58mLzg_OP00xSiEwHAv0Dk2d8d_R9jPEO1q8LPbj/s1600/IMG_0088.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqibg6QXhM-VGUBD7_2WI6IpBreZ2BpBnfSp6RZ1EipSxB0IEffzVFcvenT_VRIXUzSdto8nXrGS1LloP2wgJmMwmWITlQagih78eX58mLzg_OP00xSiEwHAv0Dk2d8d_R9jPEO1q8LPbj/s400/IMG_0088.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There is loads of texture in this mini as I used lots of different 3D stitches to add a bit of personality to what is a very simple design.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'll be hanging this mini up on the tree along with two other minis I've made - <a href="http://www.nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la.html" target="_blank">a garland</a> and a slightly over-weight dove of peace.</div>

Once upon a time before patch-working I was crazily addicted to cross-stitch and embroidery. Yesterday I got the urge to cross-stich so I quickly drafted a plan for a basic garland and stitched it up in no time. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQufaiqSa888wPUWE368V05kBUkd_eAzhdGCvzYr0LVpZ4fD58m2dww7KlPcamaJ9770QNvS9-duwjv1B2JPUGA7OLFfhxGJPLvNfoTgwYZer6uEVNxxxVl8JixyswahU_lYynZqUgqVI7/s1600/hooped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQufaiqSa888wPUWE368V05kBUkd_eAzhdGCvzYr0LVpZ4fD58m2dww7KlPcamaJ9770QNvS9-duwjv1B2JPUGA7OLFfhxGJPLvNfoTgwYZer6uEVNxxxVl8JixyswahU_lYynZqUgqVI7/s400/hooped.jpg" width="370" /></a></div>
I used a gorgeous check from Loominous by Anna Maria Horner as the background and perle thread for the stitching. I have to admit I love the simple effect. Because I'm feeling rather generous I've put the chart on <a href="https://payhip.com/b/AxBv" target="_blank">Payhip</a> as a free download so anyone can have a go if they fancy it. <br />

I'm currently stitching up an embroidered version using bullion knots and other bulky stitches to get a bit of texture. I'm also waiting on some ridiculously tiny embroidery hoops to arrive and I intend to fill them with mini embroideries to put on the Christmas tree so expect to see more free downloads in the near future.<br />

Well, amazingly, I have actually finished it! It's approximately 10 1/2" x 13 1/2", so a decent size for little gifts and for little ones to fill with their favourite possessions when they want to tote them around. I have visions of dinosaurs and Lego being carried around in this one when Christmas is over.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This fantastic dotty print from Gardenvale by Jen Kingwell was the perfect snowy background for the nutcracker block. I wanted to make sure the bag was going to be up to the task of toting toys for a decent amount of time so lining was essential. I used another print from Gardenvale to pull everything together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This mini tote took less than an hour to make so it's a perfect last minute make. As making this made me feel festive I thought it might be fun to share how I made it so you can make your own!<br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">I've designed this quilt to be a very quick project. There is no

<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The
12 page PDF pattern is in pictorial format so there is very little
written instruction, as such it is suitable for people with at least
a basic knowledge of patchwork techniques. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The pattern testers have
all enjoyed the pictorial format and have found it very
straight-forward to follow, I hope that you will agree. Here's an example of the page layout.</span><br />

Sorry for the blogging gap, again! I've been very busy recently and blogging fell off the to-do list to save my sanity. One of the things I've been busy doing is putting together a pattern for my Easy Peasy Christmas Sampler.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG94oTzhl8Gf9x-7ssPbo9EjkJ9K0x-nZkHeK1kuafCte-msr8PTv_TgxveXUXSMHaiwAtfFdrywTJWlZ4shzSUmVtEWLK6Xoc1GggeTPjxTl5GUrkDv4Vti2g0GWO_U7OS-InUWngSUzj/s1600/Easy+Peasy+Christmas+Sampler+Quilt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG94oTzhl8Gf9x-7ssPbo9EjkJ9K0x-nZkHeK1kuafCte-msr8PTv_TgxveXUXSMHaiwAtfFdrywTJWlZ4shzSUmVtEWLK6Xoc1GggeTPjxTl5GUrkDv4Vti2g0GWO_U7OS-InUWngSUzj/s400/Easy+Peasy+Christmas+Sampler+Quilt.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I have actually made the quilt top but haven't managed to get a decent picture of it yet because of the grey and gloomy light we've got at the moment. Hopefully I'll manage to get a decent shot soon! <br />
I've finally finished drafting the pattern and now I'm after some help testing the pattern.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisEFMnz_DyXhZlBkWkDljRtPA3TFCqfA61-s-RufsWkga6ccB0w1BlWfAhv2e5mTN8bwie7A7ykxlHfr_qdSreXORecpAfEpU64oigBl2XmukB1lN565vTJOfanBB9nxsQJ4lOAI42XO5j/s1600/epcspattern+testers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisEFMnz_DyXhZlBkWkDljRtPA3TFCqfA61-s-RufsWkga6ccB0w1BlWfAhv2e5mTN8bwie7A7ykxlHfr_qdSreXORecpAfEpU64oigBl2XmukB1lN565vTJOfanBB9nxsQJ4lOAI42XO5j/s400/epcspattern+testers.jpg" width="341" /></a></div>
If you can commit to making one single block of your choice from the sampler <strong>by Sunday evening</strong> (15th November) then I'd love your help. In return for making the block you will receive the full PDF pattern for the sampler. All I'll need from you is a decent photo of your finished block that I can share when I release the pattern next week. The quickest blocks take less than an hour from cutting out to finish so I'm not asking for a great deal of your time. If you've got time to spare between now and Sunday I'd really love your help! Leave a message here with your contact email or email <a href="mailto:reene@nelliesniceties.com">reene@nelliesniceties.com</a> and I'll get back to you. Catch you soon xReene@Nellie's Nicetieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07612916379456955078noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-552107843211064831.post-45047153917100024142015-10-15T21:19:00.000+01:002015-10-15T21:19:18.899+01:00Ribbon DanceIssue 15 of <a href="http://www.quiltnow.co.uk/" target="_blank">Quilt Now</a> is a couple of weeks old now so I'm belatedly sharing with you here what regular readers of the magazine already know. Month 2 of the Quilt Now BOM is Ribbon Dance - a pretty collection of half-square triangles and half-rectangle triangles. Here's the Kona solid version that is in the magazine.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgp0J-tFl42Oh3BBrEeBgQCckWxp5MHclgQPA_L0Dsrzw40wda7tJu8TGc1ZoSsWoUElRhVeBqMS0eodoViE_WJ7zcvAYxscDeAw14bE37W5fSkZRaEa6b_N35-j6svNIoZl9GYX-ECCFy/s1600/ribbon+dance+for+website.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgp0J-tFl42Oh3BBrEeBgQCckWxp5MHclgQPA_L0Dsrzw40wda7tJu8TGc1ZoSsWoUElRhVeBqMS0eodoViE_WJ7zcvAYxscDeAw14bE37W5fSkZRaEa6b_N35-j6svNIoZl9GYX-ECCFy/s320/ribbon+dance+for+website.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
For this month's mini-quilt I used some prints from Doe by Carolyn Friedlander and a fleecy backing fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpC6jbPiIF_atEz1BTXcATaLGQCkNP4g2PNx-sziYhivsfUx_Wtx8YEwUo6IYdlSK8sxxi5AOYR-UdmmRv3Z_yqZWxV-pJ5Mq_WTEB_JPjhBV4y-7coaH9-hhH2xxDg-fTwZ3smH6jQUo2/s1600/for+website2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpC6jbPiIF_atEz1BTXcATaLGQCkNP4g2PNx-sziYhivsfUx_Wtx8YEwUo6IYdlSK8sxxi5AOYR-UdmmRv3Z_yqZWxV-pJ5Mq_WTEB_JPjhBV4y-7coaH9-hhH2xxDg-fTwZ3smH6jQUo2/s400/for+website2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
For good measure I also made one up for my print version of the sampler. I used prints from Carolyn Friedlander's new range, Carkai and a print from The Lovely Hunt by Lizzy House.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsAVWKrtn_SrHtOhyphenhyphenqvcCDdF090YMBwLYk3C9qtm7Rr0DSjbcJxftljBngoacvLN85_DlPYf_N-RK8_GZI1hir3BlkaK4Di1uMOHVlEjY-4qLUUQcTsGknVt-MaQXbv3GaQT6LNOAsepAN/s1600/P1140032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsAVWKrtn_SrHtOhyphenhyphenqvcCDdF090YMBwLYk3C9qtm7Rr0DSjbcJxftljBngoacvLN85_DlPYf_N-RK8_GZI1hir3BlkaK4Di1uMOHVlEjY-4qLUUQcTsGknVt-MaQXbv3GaQT6LNOAsepAN/s400/P1140032.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I've put a few multi-block layouts together in EQ7 to give you some inspiration if you fancied trying out a quilt using this block. This one makes me think of Argyle socks...no idea why, I'm just putting that thought out there.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-XTJpYEnMeAPT_N9EhY0-mzxzq-N_Qt4mh1KdXCQbqQxfeJKFAZzb35AOrkqTj9d1vk1V2mKJHGyNRYvU31zPFduzZYxDLNbzBOW1ac8d8Y9PQB-4-gw-qVbzxyROF2gZF0bxHQRvVjkT/s1600/multiblock+quilt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-XTJpYEnMeAPT_N9EhY0-mzxzq-N_Qt4mh1KdXCQbqQxfeJKFAZzb35AOrkqTj9d1vk1V2mKJHGyNRYvU31zPFduzZYxDLNbzBOW1ac8d8Y9PQB-4-gw-qVbzxyROF2gZF0bxHQRvVjkT/s400/multiblock+quilt.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
This second version uses the block on point.<br />

If you decide to join in I'd love you to use the hashtag #quiltnowbom on Instagram or Twitter so that Quilt Now and I can find your blocks. There are a few blocks on there already which makes me a happy bunny :) </div>

My gorgeous sister-in-law, Jade, gave birth to another handsome little man on Friday. Meet Harrison Joshua, little brother to our gorgeous <a href="http://nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/did-i-mention-fat-quarterly.html" target="_blank">Mackinlay</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkist8DPARky6wZCRm8nX39yOu2Mk6B6d0ulxctWKzEhULKmvh-aQBXQ34e559I2eJZxQ-BZ7DfTg0cHmB6AYmZL3hxYOBogYk4cwl__2JO40qDtS3KvBLf_dLn6qT1PBzCrP2unt0okAt/s1600/harrison.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkist8DPARky6wZCRm8nX39yOu2Mk6B6d0ulxctWKzEhULKmvh-aQBXQ34e559I2eJZxQ-BZ7DfTg0cHmB6AYmZL3hxYOBogYk4cwl__2JO40qDtS3KvBLf_dLn6qT1PBzCrP2unt0okAt/s400/harrison.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I promised Jade a handmade baby changing bag which seemed only fair when she was creating this handsome little bundle. My energy levels have been extremely low recently so it was a case of doing little bits of construction as and when I felt up to it. I revisited an old <a href="http://nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/holiday-at-home.html" target="_blank">favourite pattern</a> for the purpose. The slouchy mama bag is voluminous which is just what you need when you have lots of baby stuff to cart around. I used one layer of interfacing and two layers of batting in the exterior shell and quilted a grid pattern using Aurifil to provide a sturdy exterior in the hope that it will live up to daily use.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhczobsio5-6vnFriR_Wd0MxPzz7N0dbO8oDNs0FaFVzUuY3fAQBTDc_rkQbi-dZaeAfBz9GgXd1K-89RHL6sPfkXue7BRrwk_PO_ZsQs1JMKztDAbsfYcZjzKXHyzr5QjkHjj3YHUIUGRQ/s1600/P1140025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhczobsio5-6vnFriR_Wd0MxPzz7N0dbO8oDNs0FaFVzUuY3fAQBTDc_rkQbi-dZaeAfBz9GgXd1K-89RHL6sPfkXue7BRrwk_PO_ZsQs1JMKztDAbsfYcZjzKXHyzr5QjkHjj3YHUIUGRQ/s400/P1140025.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I pulled lots of fun prints from Tula Pink, Cotton + Steel, Rhoda Ruth and paired them with this gorgeous deep orange kona solid. I figured the prints were grown up enough to be suitable for mummy and interesting enough to entertain small boys on bus trips.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVYJAv6JgKTgZ2jwUJ8sTpjr4ERKO9IcySHGMZxv0BalgphgibQH1AC6_sV6cxo1Sg7Qtb4YkXJrtOS72qwN7JfedqXABUYcpSzRyRwlwaMnO7Dl8T098ugjfHH832kc7UDQSFrOjNO3Ly/s1600/P1140026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVYJAv6JgKTgZ2jwUJ8sTpjr4ERKO9IcySHGMZxv0BalgphgibQH1AC6_sV6cxo1Sg7Qtb4YkXJrtOS72qwN7JfedqXABUYcpSzRyRwlwaMnO7Dl8T098ugjfHH832kc7UDQSFrOjNO3Ly/s400/P1140026.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I used some of this awesome tiger print from Tula Pink's new Eden range and felt very proud of myself for sharing one of my favourites ;) It's not as selfless as I'd have you believe really, as I have yardage of this print for a dress!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzke4a8FtiVvdufnyzr-hrB49pfAqU4AFrN69Jl9h_Z6s2ZS4kHtnbxB6VOVWt2Ep3K3uPjYvORK6KfLnBAb_vkGiKfSCzk5h6VaP2J-IjFyzolzzPVqjZ_sgJke2Fu0SWJx5Ytddhz1Mk/s1600/P1140027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzke4a8FtiVvdufnyzr-hrB49pfAqU4AFrN69Jl9h_Z6s2ZS4kHtnbxB6VOVWt2Ep3K3uPjYvORK6KfLnBAb_vkGiKfSCzk5h6VaP2J-IjFyzolzzPVqjZ_sgJke2Fu0SWJx5Ytddhz1Mk/s400/P1140027.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I added my first (and probably last) concealed interior pocket so there would be somewhere safe to put keys/purse etc. if Jade wanted to leave here handbag at home. I can't even tell you the amount of swearing that was involved in putting this pocket in. No idea why it was such hard work as it's simple enough in theory! As is usual when I make something like this I fell in love with it but I'm sure Jade will love it too and I'll still get to see it often...<br />

While I'm on the subject of bags, there's a free pattern designed by me on the <a href="http://www.quiltnow.co.uk/item/482-free-simple-patchwork-tote-pattern" target="_blank">Quilt Now blog</a> for this simple patchwork tote bag.<br />

About 15 years ago I was "diagnosed" with an Idiopathic Brain-stem Disorder (a fancy way of saying we don't know what's wrong with your brain-stem). Following my recent neck/shoulder issues I had another MRI(I've had about 7 over the years), this time the MRI report contained an incidental finding of "low-lying cerebellar tonsils". Me being me, I hopped on to google and came across <a href="http://www.annconroytrust.org/" target="_blank">The Ann Conroy Trust website</a> and found a page which described pretty much the entirety of the past 16 years of my medical history. I went to my GP and requested (read: demanded!) a referral out of area, to a Neurosurgeon called Mr Flint. I'm so glad I did! Today I travelled to Birmingham to visit Mr Flint (he was lovely!), and he confirmed a suspicion that I had held since receiving the MRI report. I have a <a href="http://www.annconroytrust.org/what-we-do/about-conditions/what-chiari-malformation/" target="_blank">Chiari Malformation</a>! Essentially, my brain is too big for my skull and part of the Cerebellum (the cerebellar tonsils) hangs down in to my neck. It explains why I've always been so ill after operations; my poor brain-stem and cerebellum were being squished when I was undergoing anaesthetic! Look away now if you're squeamish. The bit that the arrow is pointing to is the cerebellar tonsils. They should be neatly tucked up inside my skull not hanging down and squishing the brain-stem. Apparently the front of my neck is an issue too, the angle at the front is quite sharp, which accounts for my choking episodes, and puts more pressure on the back of my head/neck. The horrendous vertigo I suffer from is probably related to disrupted flow of the cerebro-spinal fluid!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTby1JORB9DQjswHuX1qS_CvzkfSW2zeNWt1EVXejQcz31TmgqLssm75c6k-6aGm9ugaaHgDoXSKcwCD7YEpTzpgN24SZBpDNwO4qAfFl8Z4QpPFBaDcJs35pejexQqevvlrJq1lDXZ3ir/s1600/Chiari+malformation+for+net.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTby1JORB9DQjswHuX1qS_CvzkfSW2zeNWt1EVXejQcz31TmgqLssm75c6k-6aGm9ugaaHgDoXSKcwCD7YEpTzpgN24SZBpDNwO4qAfFl8Z4QpPFBaDcJs35pejexQqevvlrJq1lDXZ3ir/s640/Chiari+malformation+for+net.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
Fortunately I don't need surgery at this point although that may be a possibility in the future. I don't fancy major brain surgery any time soon! Although nothing has actually changed, my symptoms still remain and I still require medication to get through each day, I feel so relieved to finally have a diagnosis that makes sense! It's a shame it took 16 years and a passing comment in an MRI report to get to this point. Anyway, I'm just delighted to be able to give up looking for answers to this particular problem. Mr Flint left me with a funny thought..."for all the specialists who thought it was all in my head the problem was, it wasn't all in my head, it was in my neck too!"<br />

This month is a foundation pieced block that I've called Trellis for fairly obvious reasons.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUr10DCSzY1fqEp-f96slO6-R7WCVUGDr6-g_SugzQ-Q5hkBcCtoMwvtIDmaaFpNcxW0sWq5S8tE7LW5G2a6hjU5g7aZJ1wknLdAwWvHYoJDOkJzTtVvU51o4IPlSwO2MwYkfnJ0E-t9md/s1600/Month+8+Trellis.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUr10DCSzY1fqEp-f96slO6-R7WCVUGDr6-g_SugzQ-Q5hkBcCtoMwvtIDmaaFpNcxW0sWq5S8tE7LW5G2a6hjU5g7aZJ1wknLdAwWvHYoJDOkJzTtVvU51o4IPlSwO2MwYkfnJ0E-t9md/s400/Month+8+Trellis.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Trellis is a 12" block and even though it is foundation pieced it still goes together very quickly. As usual it looks pretty in a multi-block setting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDnkOp-q_nxO5oRhysyUj09y08IAaEwT587xpgNNFSucgOTHoMTQF8ipAttVLOfd85osBay6WxZwLSfVZa_NcafDNLI2xGxq0psRmPJbuCRym5bSML4c5yafPj1xWVs1VqLaBkQ5OTcIcS/s1600/Month+8+Trellis+multiblock.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDnkOp-q_nxO5oRhysyUj09y08IAaEwT587xpgNNFSucgOTHoMTQF8ipAttVLOfd85osBay6WxZwLSfVZa_NcafDNLI2xGxq0psRmPJbuCRym5bSML4c5yafPj1xWVs1VqLaBkQ5OTcIcS/s400/Month+8+Trellis+multiblock.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Here's one I made earlier ;)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLOSaRMopeAq7tLgAndkRjiREUDb9PLG2ZJBXGfc_IEkNMd1EyyvhIZ4amzNskE769_CYfVJq1WqrTaZY4M2KdWHZWn2TJIPW0e-7Nr0jVxnaCj3XHundYXicy5i3mObqGBp2n-sSu3NrZ/s1600/Month+8+Trellis+finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLOSaRMopeAq7tLgAndkRjiREUDb9PLG2ZJBXGfc_IEkNMd1EyyvhIZ4amzNskE769_CYfVJq1WqrTaZY4M2KdWHZWn2TJIPW0e-7Nr0jVxnaCj3XHundYXicy5i3mObqGBp2n-sSu3NrZ/s400/Month+8+Trellis+finished.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

I'd like to say I've been so busy sewing that I haven't had time to blog but the truth is I've been exhausted so not a lot of anything has been going on. Fortunately I was busy earlier this year so I've still got things that I can share here until my energy levels rise again. <a href="http://www.quiltnow.co.uk/item/478-qn14-on-sale" target="_blank">Issue 14 of Quilt Now</a> heralds the start of the <a href="http://www.quiltnow.co.uk/item/479-brand-new-block-of-the-month-quilt" target="_blank">new mystery BOM</a> designed by yours truly. This time around I'm using Kona solids from the <a href="http://www.robertkaufman.com/pre-cut/konareg_cotton_designer_palette_series_emily_cier_of_carolina_patchworks/" target="_blank">Emily Cier</a> bundle for the magazine quilt. There is only one block to make each month so I'm hoping that it will be easier for some of you to quilt along with me, The first block is a simple Quarter log-cabin. Here's the solids version...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEtJkjnuVcH3efhuM4B8NjvkxoTbpzSGUFJ8VswEGSMVQO6f8Xd4iUlU0h6_cZonNPJ4YmzqvoZk8g3Td7Ww3P4OQe56h-RFunVB2i7HB5hTvOCLNzznyMZwIZTwYYZ00jnCLe56upivqN/s1600/P1130641.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEtJkjnuVcH3efhuM4B8NjvkxoTbpzSGUFJ8VswEGSMVQO6f8Xd4iUlU0h6_cZonNPJ4YmzqvoZk8g3Td7Ww3P4OQe56h-RFunVB2i7HB5hTvOCLNzznyMZwIZTwYYZ00jnCLe56upivqN/s400/P1130641.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
...and a mini-quilt using some prints from Gardenvale by Jen Kingwell.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLm4YFwdyWDbnYj9SCKjXmoxgc5z1ENxRXzGM6wRqZ_XUZy8LVF0Vzu9yRZ3I708WoE3f7vBN7Kej3ZiOVBZlWhCPo6nz_nw-4RBg_mP1Q4kU5El8-FmNbZ-OvkqzAfdx2De8Dusdx-s-m/s1600/P1130718.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLm4YFwdyWDbnYj9SCKjXmoxgc5z1ENxRXzGM6wRqZ_XUZy8LVF0Vzu9yRZ3I708WoE3f7vBN7Kej3ZiOVBZlWhCPo6nz_nw-4RBg_mP1Q4kU5El8-FmNbZ-OvkqzAfdx2De8Dusdx-s-m/s400/P1130718.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm going to quilt along too this time so I'll have a different version of the finished quilt for myself at the end of it. Each of the blocks would look equally fabulous in multiples so I'll share a couple of ideas with you each month.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It appears I've missed our 5th blogiversary! I'll have to remedy that very soon with a giveaway but for now I'm belatedly sharing this month's <a href="http://nelliesniceties.blogspot.co.uk/p/mystery-bom-2015.html" target="_blank">Nellie's Niceties Mystery BOM</a> block.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbM-B98kst0sOkYW7920vBq88X006BPecNNk-w7vP_R_LgCzCKpadtQXkxjrGdXSykF73Tg0GFBzgvK2maMrsiHz_onLH3JX-2sSzM-EfASIp6Ld_hZzlylCimswIA6f-rBEgNdwQArJcb/s1600/small+mystery+bom.png" width="185" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Shock, horror, it's another EPP block. I've called this one, Crossroads. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlZmtJMJI6MbzZAyU7Bzc-5cpp_T9QdXuRq0o5JQvi-mXBhTAjfYhEgU6gX17AsylTHczkZJWI4lmBbX4Iy_Ggv4I3OI1c8Wi-0EnktblYGicRHNB1KQuPDVBrCNEUUAfU6jJs4SdWrzqW/s1600/Month+7+Crossroads.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlZmtJMJI6MbzZAyU7Bzc-5cpp_T9QdXuRq0o5JQvi-mXBhTAjfYhEgU6gX17AsylTHczkZJWI4lmBbX4Iy_Ggv4I3OI1c8Wi-0EnktblYGicRHNB1KQuPDVBrCNEUUAfU6jJs4SdWrzqW/s400/Month+7+Crossroads.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
It's a 6" block that produces a pretty secondary pattern as usual when used in mutliples.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZcsxIWFnGLM1xRCRKorIZb8zNgf3hFJ98W-0schfvyRBUnqIAPsbQFMWcEsD62SN0LfjAKQaMbq679PnGpxTji_X8UCXpde1cmytuo3r0idWGxR0GV66uqVIUry29eSwt1goSrrmx_ttw/s1600/Month+7+Crossroads+multiblock.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZcsxIWFnGLM1xRCRKorIZb8zNgf3hFJ98W-0schfvyRBUnqIAPsbQFMWcEsD62SN0LfjAKQaMbq679PnGpxTji_X8UCXpde1cmytuo3r0idWGxR0GV66uqVIUry29eSwt1goSrrmx_ttw/s400/Month+7+Crossroads+multiblock.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
