Remix

It's a big week this week. Our baby turns 18 on Friday! I should be madly planning celebrations but instead I'm trying to ignore the fact that I appear to have developed man-flu. I say trying as it keeps breaking me out in a sweat then plunging me into the chills so it's fairly hard to ignore. I thought I'd get on and sew to take my mind  off it but by the time I climbed the stairs I wanted to curl up in a ball. I will have to satisfy myself (and therefore you too) with a WIP picture instead of a finished article.

I've been working on this EPP for a little while using lots of pretty screen printed fabrics from Karen Lewis textiles. I've used some of the templates from my Shields cushion (available in Quilt Now Issue 8) along with a newly drafted distorted hexagon template to link the elements together in a Shields Remix. All I need to add are the cornerstones then this top is ready for sashing and quilting. Fingers crossed for a finish early next week!
Now I'm off to chill out and will this man-flu to sod off. Catch you soon xx

Precuts

Fat Quarterly Ezine Issue 17 Precuts III is on sale today and there may just be a little something designed by me in there :) This is my Battenberg medallion quilt. I used the highly colourful Sewing Box by Gina Martin for this lap sized quilt. It's an extremely simple medallion quilt perfect for beginners :)

Now that this issue is available I can show you more detailed pictures of the Brit Print Girl medallion that I exhibited at Quilt and Stitch Village :) For this version of the quilt I scaled down the block sizes and added an extra 2 borders, one of half square triangles and another solid frame. This one finished up around 42" square.

All prints used in this quilt (except the binding which is Joel Dewberry) are screen printed here in Blighty by the crazily talented gals Karen Lewis, Lu Summers and Leanne Fanny.

Sometimes simple blocks are all that is necessary to make a fabric sing :)

I just love the way they all play together :)

I really enjoyed showcasing the fabulous creations of these "Brit Print Girls" and was particularly proud to have been able to show them off at Quilt and Stitch Village. I think we can safely say that I am not afraid pattern ;) Catch you soon x

Hmmm

So today I was hoping to show you my finished Brit Quilt Swap mini quilt but this little chap had other ideas. 

Benji 

Benji decided to bung himself up with fur so we spent the day trying to get him to eat when I should have been sewing! After a quick trip to the vets he seems to be feeling better so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get the mini finished tomorrow. It really wouldn't be good for a swap mama to be late sending out her swap!! This is as far as I managed to get today. If my partner doesn't like purple I'm stuffed! I used this pattern to piece the sewing machine. I ad-libbed the rest of the design but I think it all works together. The "Sew wall-hanging" is cross-stitched and the borders were originally intended to be flying geese but I had total brain-fade and ended up with these envelope type things instead. I'll be doing some very basic quilting on this one as I don't want to overcrowd it.

 In other news, I bought these gorgeous screen-printed fabrics from Brit Designer Leanne at The Little House Martin. They are absolutely gorgeous and so intricate! You  might want to haul your backsides over there and order some of your very own if you haven't already ;) Leanne threw in some buttons and scraps as a thank you, how lovely is that?! I envisage lots of lovely makes from these and they'd play really nicely with Karen's fabrics too....
