Our first ever giveaway!!!

Well we did promise you a giveaway at the start of the new year, so rather tardily it's a new month giveaway :) I'll cut to the chase and show you the loot!

I've had a bit of thing for circles after doing these blocks for Krista in the Fresh Modern Bee 2 . So I thought I'd incorporate circles into my giveaway item. I used my new Go!Baby to cut the 1" circles that are dotted around the central circle. I was amazed how easy it was to use and I'm looking forward to using it again very soon :) The base fabric is a warm natural linen, the centre circle is Kaffe Fassett and the surrounding circles are Amy Butler, Denyse Schmidt and Patty Young. I kept with the circle theme and quilted the cushion front with a free motion pebble effect (my first attempt at this so be gentle with me). The back of the cushion is a plain linen envelope back with a brown button fastening.

Yvonne has been very generous and cut into her extensive stash of Liberty lawn fabrics. There are 50, 3" squares up for grabs, they'd be perfect for hexies. Yvonne has made a very cute bag in Liberty fabric to hold these lovelies. You'll see evidence of her fancy new machine at work in the label "Taking Liberty" :) Don't they look tempting?

So now for the details of the giveaway. One lucky winner will win all the loot! The giveaway will run until Saturday 5th February 5.00pm (GMT). You can have 2 chances to win!!

For one chance to win share with us your worst fashion faux pas.

For me this was hair related, a very tragic poodle perm. What makes this even sadder is that I can't blame the 80s, it was about 5 years ago, oh the shame!

Yvonne's faux pas is also hair related (we are so alike, we chose these independent of each other, I guess it's true like mother like daughter!) although, personally, I think the faux pas was my Dad's not hers. After spending hours at the hairdresser having her hair scrunch dried, Dad asked when she was having her hair done. When she told him that she had he suggested she go and ask for a refund! Not a happy Mummy!

For the second chance to win, if you're a follower already leave a comment to say that you are and if you're not please feel free to become a follower and leave a comment to say hello :)

So there you have it, our first giveaway. I think these goodies look rather lovely together. I wonder if it would be wrong to leave a message on my own blog for a chance to win ;) Just kidding you, I promise to let these goodies go just as soon as the random winner generator gadget thing decides who the winner is. I'd better investigate how that works before Saturday :)

Good luck to you all! Please make sure you leave a way for me to contact you if you win as I will have to redraw the winner if I can't get in touch with you and that would be a shame, right?

Note to self, don't be too disappointed if noone enters, the goodies are cute enough to keep all to yourself ;)

  1. You only have to look at my fashion in the late 70's through to the 80's, and each day was a fashion faux pas. You should be able to contact me if I am lucky enough to win, but if all else fails, you can contact me through flickr

  2. Oh by the way, I am a follower, so that should give me second chance to win this great giveaway. Thanks for the chance.

  3. My fashion faux pas would also have to be a perm... but in my case it was because I looked like little orphan Annie, right when it was popular LOL

  5. That cushion is fab. I have a fear of curved piecing - after a few horrors. But It's on my 'to master' list this year. As well as to try pebble quilting because it looks so cool! That must be some Liberty Stash to yield those lovelies...oh ok I know I'm putting off the inevitable. In 1989ish I went to my sister in laws cousins wedding in Essex. I was in my teens I couldn't afford a new outfit so raided my mum's wardrobe and wore a green 1960's Windsmoor suit, a black belt, green tights (not quite the green of the suit), white lace gloves and...white stiletto peep toe shoes. I thought I was being ironic. If I'd have thought for longer I'd have realised I'd be in group wedding photos

  7. Proud to say I went for the Rambo look in middle school, by wearing a fatique shirt with really fake patches. I must have pulled it off, because I had the nickname Rambo for 8th grade.

  8. I came by from the Spicing up the Kitchen Swap - and my worst fashion faux paux - I was in high school in the 80's - where to start - the mullet? Tight rolled pants, wrestling shoes? So many faux pas to choose from! Fun to remember - yikes!

  9. That pillow and those prints are gorgeous!

And thanks for the hilarious and fun question: my fashion faux-pas by far is almost certainly that I used to wear my hair up in a ponytail, held up with wooden chopsticks throughout one year in university. I have no idea what I was thinking!

  10. Love the pillow and prints too! My fashion faux pas was in the 80's eghad I'm too embarrassed to think of all those styles and we thought we were gorgeous!! hahahahaha

  11. I am a follower.... and I'm still laughing about the styles in the 80's!! My eyeglasses must have been half the size of my head!! hahahaha

  12. Oh goodness my worst fashion faux pas would have to be when I decided that wearing converse with dresses would be the perfect combination of flirty and tom boy...only I did this with work dresses. Most of my coworkers just though I had broken the heel off of my stilettos or something equally silly and was forced to borrow shoes!

  14. Thanks for the giveaway! Thinking back i guess my worst faux pas would be in the 90's I used to wear Doc Martin boots with little black dresses - yep my rock chick phase... used to think I looked pretty cool too, fortunately there's very little photographic evidence :o) I am indeed now a follower.

  15. I had a crimp perm! Voluntarily! I'll never live that down.

  16. BTW, I love the pillow. It's very pretty. I started following your blog today. Thanks for the giveaway chance!

  17. That pillow is gorgeous! Your pebble quilting looks beautiful :)
    My biggest fashion faux pas?
Hmmm...I lived through the 80s, so that entire decade is FILLED with tragic fashion. Stirrup pants, GIANT teased hair, shoulder pads, and frosted pink eyeshadow top my list of my fashion regrets. Fortunately few photos exist.

  18. I do like circles in fabric! My faux pas was hair related- a v short, think Annie Lennox crop- I had a round full face and thick hair, the hairdresser panicked as my hair stuck out and kept cutting. This was circa 1984- My hair is now long, long long and has been since that experience

  19. When I was at law school (see, I'm showing off now), I borrowed my friend's jeans only she was (as she often pointed out to me), quite a bit slimmer than me. All was fine until I sneezed and blasted the zip into pieces. I can laugh now. Oh, and not quite a fashion faux pas, but when I was pregnant with Tom, I sat on the loo seat at work and it snapped right in half. Again, I can laugh about it now...never had a perm although Nigel and I have a contest to see how quickly we can spot each other's new hairdos - I missed his new one for three whole days last time - married so long, I clearly no longer bother looking at him!

  21. Well, I hav enever been on the cutting edge of, well, anything, but when I was in high school, I was very poor. My mom had bought me a pair of leggins and I wore them until they began to fade and she wore them in spilt the seam. I was lacking in attire, so I took these lovely leggings and stitched up the rear, but It wasn't pretty. But, since I really did only own 2 pair of pants, these lovelies being 1 of them, I often wore the, under shorts. People thought I was weird anyway, so what was the difference? One morning, with no other option than these poor faded, stitched up butt leggings, I found an off-white Ace bandage. I wrapped this Ace bandage into a skirt and secured it with a nice fake rudy pin and went on to school. All was passing ok until I walked into my English class. The teacher made me stand up while she called me names and mocked my faux pas. After that, she called for a stricter dress code.

  22. I love the kaffe fassett pillow.
I don't know if many fashion faux pas are really just the sign of the times. I cringe at many of the outfits I had in school but then again, in 10 years, I will probably cringe at what I'm wearing today except I don't have the excuse of being young and unknowing :D

  23. Hmm..back when I worked for the airlines, we had to wear heels when we flew :( Yes, really we did. Well our heels were navy blue and comfortable for heels; so I bought an identical pair in brown for church. Well our closet was dark at the time and I was in a hurry, and I reached in and got what I thought were a pair of brown shoes, while in church I happened to look down at my shoes, and I wanted to slither under the pews, I had one one brown shoe and one navy blue shoe. Yes...I was very embarassed walking out of church and people smiling at me...
There you have it. ;) (Yeah, I can laugh about it now...)

  24. OK, here we go - get ready for this. Early nineties, I was in my early teens. I used to wear a shell suit (top half zipped up and turned under), high top trainers with the tongue sticking out, a bum bag (!) and I had a tight perm to go with it that I used to hairspray up at the front to make a big quiff. So there we go. If I win, I might just send you a photo...

  25. Oh yeah...I'm also a subscriber. Thanks for the chance to win!!

  27. Pretty pillow!
My worst fashion faux pas occurred right after I had bought a super tight pair of (GASP!) pleather pants. I was out dancing with friends and the entire crotch seam ripped out - front to back. Oh the horror.

  28. Love reading the comments. Oh I suppose my fashion faux pas would have been the same era as everyone else. I'm so glad those teen years are gone. My worse item was red jeans that were not exactly my size. ugh

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh where to begin. I think with the athletic shorts and the knee high tube socks of the 70s. Please wipe my brain of that image!

  30. I love that pillow and the quilting on it looks great! I remember my favorite outfit in the sixth grade was a bright yellow Izod shirt with a lavender corduroy vest over it. I even matched my swatch watch to it every time I wore it. Yikes. (Got here from your sliced coins post!)

  31. to name but one fashion faux pas is be very hard... there were MANY of them, as i was a teenager in the eighties. the worst was definitely a "squaw-style" white tee-shirt minidress complete with finges and beads and an eagle-print on the front. i wore that with a skinny belt (not being skinny myself, mind you) and a 99-red-ballons-nena-style mullet (excuse me, i am german). i know. it still hurts.

  32. My worst fashion faux pas has to be the time I wore hot pants OVER my super skinny jeans. I have no idea what I was thinking, obviously I wasn't.
